During
the 2007 Session, Sal Esquivel and the Southern Oregon delegation
accomplished the following:
• Created a rainy day fund so that vital services are not lost
in economic
downturns.
• Co-wrote the House rules that allow all representatives
to introduce
legislation in the House, taking politics out of the process.
• Created a medically involved home-care program for seniors.
• Set health standards for food and beverages sold in schools.
• Made it a crime to furnish sexually explicit material to children.

In 2005, Sal Esquivel and our entire Southern Oregon delegation accomplished the following:
• Paved the way for Chambers of Commerce to provide group health insurance for
themselves, their members, and
members’ employees.
•
Funding for Southern Oregon University/Rogue Community College
education
center in downtown Medford ($5.9
million in bonding authority
and $3.1 million in general fund
appropriation). - Provides seamless transition
between community colleges
and higher education. - Provides economic enhancement
in downtown Medford.
•
Helped secure $358,000 federal grant to purchase protected woodlands
in
Jacksonville – Jacksonville
Woodlands Project.
•
Approval of a new judge position for Jackson County
(Circuit Court Judge,
position 9), to help handle the
growing crime rate.
• Funding for the Family Nurturing Center – Jackson County Children’s
Crisis
Relief Nursery, which provides
services to families with young
children at risk of abuse or neglect.
• Funding to save Project Independence, a seniors program that
allows aging
seniors to remain in their homes,
preserving their dignity
and independence.
• Funding to save Head Start, the child development program
serving low-income
children and families. |
